Tirta Empul Temple (Pura Tirta Empul) is one of Bali's most sacred water temples, built around a natural spring that has been considered holy for over 1,000 years. The temple complex features traditional Balinese architecture with intricately carved gates, courtyards, and shrines dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of water.
The main attraction is the holy spring pools where Balinese Hindus and visitors can participate in purification rituals called "melukat." The crystal-clear spring water flows through 30 carved stone spouts into rectangular pools, each with specific spiritual purposes for cleansing body, mind, and soul.
Visitors can join locals in the purification ceremony, following traditional protocols while moving through the sacred pools. This spiritual experience offers deep insight into Balinese Hindu culture and provides a meaningful connection to ancient traditions still practiced today.
